About the Chamber

The Legislative Chamber is the centre piece of the Legislative Building and the heart of Ontario’s parliamentary democracy. Ontario’s Members of Provincial Parliament have met here to debate and pass laws on behalf of the province’s citizens since 1893.

Measuring 24 m long (79’) by 18 m wide (59’) with a ceiling height of 14.5 m (48’), the Chamber is decorated with detailed wood carvings and elaborate plaster relief. The focal point of the Chamber is the dais, where the Speaker sits and presides over the House.

Visitors are welcome to attend a session of the Legislature and watch a debate live from one of the two Public Galleries. The proceedings are also televised and live-streamed on the Internet thanks to five cameras located around the room.
