Young Authors Award

About the Young Authors Award

To celebrate the talents of young authors in the province of Ontario, the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, is pleased to introduce a special award for young authors aged 18 to 30 as part of the annual Speaker’s Book Award. This honour brings attention to a young Ontario author whose early work has had an impact on the province’s writing scene. The goal of the recognition is to bring greater public awareness to the province’s young published authors, help inspire them with the confidence to advance their writing careers, and make their youthful perspective on stories about our province more broadly known.

Fiction, non-fiction, poetry and graphic novels will be accepted. Special consideration will be given to works that cover aspects of Ontario, including its diverse culture and communities, its history and its people.  Submissions are welcomed in either English or French and must be published in Ontario. This prize is awarded every other year and submissions will next be accepted during summer 2018.
